Jakiś czas temu skontaktował się ze mną użytkownik Flickra, prosząc o zgodę na wykorzystanie tego zdjęcia na stronie swojej fundacji, zajmującej się edukacją dzieci z indyjskich slumsów. Zgodę naturalnie otrzymał i niedawno podesłał mi link do strony fundacji z bannerem ze zdjęciem.

Mam sentyment do tej fotografii. Jest to ostatnia “klatka” jaką pstryknąłem przed wylotem z Delhi, było już prawie ciemno. Takich dzieciaków po ulicach Delhi plącze się tysiące. Większość jest analfabetami. Do dziś dziwi mnie, że te potrafiły czytać i pisać. Spędziliśmy chwilę czytając litery. Pracą dzieci jest żebractwo — zwykle biała twarz turysty przyciąga ich dziesiątki. Nie trzeba się tego bać, chociaż zbyt łagodne podejście powoduje, że bedzieli mieli nieco natrętnego przyjaciela przez cały czas pobytu w danym miejscu. Niemniej zawsze warto zatrzymać się, porozmawiać chwilę, a wtedy mamy pewność, że dzieciaki same bedą pchały się przed obiektyw.

I’ll get back to India for a while. Few weeks ago one of the Flickr users asked me, if he could use my photo on his foundation site. Their mission is to take care of the education of the slum kids. I agreed of course and lately he sent me the link to the foundation site with my photo on the banner.

I have sentiment about this photo. It the last shot from India before leaving, when it was almost dark already. You can find thousands of such kids in India. They are usually illiterated. I’m still surprised, this couple could read and and write. We spent a while reading the letters. Their work is mendicity — most often when they notice a white face of some tourist, dozens surround him. You shouldn’t be afraid of them, but if you behave too kindly, you can be sure you’ll have a rather meddlesome friend during the whole your stay in the place. However, it’s worth a stop, a gentle chat, and then you can be sure, kids are going to crowd in front of the camera.
